Software to monitor network: Who is hogging the network?

Postby Donnieclark » Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:33 am

All of the sudden we are experiencing slow internet connection and timeouts.

We haven't made any significant changes to the network and have no more users connected than ususally. But as we have between 40-100 users using the internet simultaneously at any given time, it may just be that 100 users is using the bandwith extensively this week instead of 40 users checking emails occasionally.
We are running OS X Snow Leopard server with these services enabled:
- sharepoints via AFP and SMB
- Mail (which is only used for iCal notifications)
- Web for a very basic tool we use inhouse
- All traffic is allowed by the firewall on our LAN

Server shows a total bandwidth usage on the LAN. Not on the WAN. So that's to no use.

We've installed IPNetMonitorX on the server, but as far as I can see, it does not have a feature that shows bandwidth usage per user. And the Monitor feature shows up to max 2048K bandwidth usage, which is far to little to be correct.

How can we see which IPs or computers are using up the bandwidth?

Does anyone know of a third party software that can help us monitor our network bandwidth?
