Using IPNetMonitorX on more than one machine

Postby wiedemag » Sat May 22, 2010 11:35 pm

I have a license for IPNetMonitorX current after 9 Apr 09 renewal.

The app runs fine installed on a MacBook Pro.

Installed on a MacMini on the same network the app does not see any other devices, nor can I get a response with any of the other scanning functions. It returns "invalid argument" at the bottom left of the Address Scan page. It does not see the airports on Airport Scan. The connection Scan List does populate. Ping does not work.

Any suggestions about how to make the app on this 2nd machine function properly?

Thanks

I'm guessing the installation or first run install process didn't work properly on your Mac Mini. It is important to use a recent enough version of IPNetMonitorX that is compatible with the version of Mac OS X your are running.

When Ping fails, the most likely cause is that the Ping tool was unable to open an ICMP (Raw) socket which requires root privileges. During the first run install process, IPNetMonitorX installs a "OpenICMP" helper tool in /Library/Application Support/HelperTools/ and sets it to be SUID root. Please manually remove the old helper tools folder at:

/Library/Application Support/IPNetMonitorX/HelperTools/

The next time you launch IPNetMonitorX, it will repeat the first run install process and should update itself correctly for the current system. Please let me know if that doesn't resolve the problem.

Once the machine is hooked up, will it automatically re-route the connections from one nic card to the other, or does IPNetMonitorX have to be running? If it does need to be running, what is the basic configuration to get it to work before doing more configurations?

This sounds like an IPNetRouterX question. IPNetRouterX does need to be running to re-route connections. Please Email me directly if you need further clarification.
